Marievale is probably one of the best birding locations around Johannesburg and a common bird in this area is our friend in the photo; the Southern Red Bishop. I really like the contrast and the patterns in the shot. Fun fact about these little birds is that they breed in colonies and usually build their nest over water to avoid predators like snakes, clever!
